Skala Eressos: A Journey of Connection and Creativity
In 1997, I travelled to Eressos for the first time, a small village nestled along the beautiful coastline of Lesvos in Greece. Little did I know back then that this place would soon become my spiritual home, a place where I would find inspiration and a deep connection with both the land and the community.
Since that year, I’ve returned to Eressos almost every year, drawn back by an irresistible pull. One of the many highlights of my visits is watching the Eressos Women’s Festival evolve from an event that has grown from small beginnings to a cornerstone of community. I still remember the early days when the festival took place on the beach, where we danced under the star-lit sky, the sound of the waves with a cold Mythos beer in hand.
Over the years, I’ve developed many connections with fellow festival-goers, forming friendships that feel more like family. It was through these connections that I met with Wendy and the team behind the festival. So, when they were in need of a graphic designer, our mutual friend Rachel Potter put me forward. I felt like YES, what a wonderful way of giving back to a place and festival that I hold so dear to my heart. I really feel that this festival is so important. A place for women to come together, celebrate and feel empowered on so many levels.
Collaborating with Wendy on the festival’s branding has been a Labour of love, allowing me to connect my passion for design with my dedication to a cause close to my heart. Together with Joanna, Liz and Funda, we form a dynamic little team committed to bringing the festival’s vision to women around the world.
On a day to day basis and in the UK, I co-own Chilli Graphics Ltd, a design and signage company based near Brighton, UK. Design has been my calling since I first put pencil to paper as a child, and it’s a privilege to now use that creativity in day-too-day work.
Outside of work, I love to travel and experience new places, spend quality time with my wife, family and friends.
What I love most about the festival is the collective energy and sisterhood it creates. It’s not one thing, it’s all things that this festival is: a community of women linked by a common interest.
