Description
Come and join me, Phenix Gilbert, for a fabulous day visiting the wineries of western Lesvos! I brought my love of Greek wines with me when I moved here from Santorini four years ago, and I would love to share it with you.
You will be picked up and driven in a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus to visit two premier wineries:
- Anemotia: A remarkably scenic, traditional mountain village perched 360 metres high on the volcanic caldera of Mount Kouratsonas, where the local winery is run by the Social Cooperative Enterprise of Collective & Social Benefit of Anemotia.
- Methymnaeos: Based in Chidira, a quiet, authentic mountain village, this is Lesvos’s first commercial winery, credited with saving the rare indigenous Chidiriotiko grape from extinction. Grown in volcanic soil, this native variety produces organic wines with a distinct, earthy minerality.
At both stops, we will sample ancient Greek grape varieties vinified using modern techniques, learning a bit of the island’s history and wine heritage along the way.
The day will finish with a traditional Greek lunch in Liota, a tiny, peaceful hamlet set amidst lush countryside on an olive-tree-covered hill with breathtaking views over the Aegean Sea stretching across to the shores of Turkey.
At its heart sits the historic Liota Taverna—an authentic former kafeneio shaded by a massive 500-year-old plane tree, celebrated for its traditional grilled dishes, fresh local mezedes, and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
This promises to be a truly memorable day out!
Space is limited and available exclusively to wristband holders.
