Heeyoung 희영 – A Korean Lesbian Story

We are proud to welcome Heeyoung to the International Eressos Women’s Festival 2026 for a special conversation exploring lesbian visibility, LGBTQI+ experience and community in South Korea.
From Seoul to Sappho, this talk offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from Heeyoung: an activist, influencer, content creator, tattoo artist and television personality who has become one of South Korea’s most publicly visible lesbian voices.
In a country where open lesbian visibility was, until recently, almost unthinkable, Heeyoung’s story is one of courage, representation and the search for freedom and community. Through her personal experience, she will share what it means to live openly, challenge social norms and create space for LGBTQI+ people to be seen.
Heeyoung gained wider recognition through her appearance on ToGetHer, South Korea’s first lesbian dating reality show. The programme marked an important milestone for LGBTQI+ representation in South Korean media and reached audiences far beyond Korea.
This talk will offer insight into the realities of LGBTQI+ life in South Korea, the importance of lesbian visibility, and the power of storytelling across cultures. It will also include space for questions and discussion, creating an open and respectful exchange with festival participants.
Heeyoung brings an important and underrepresented perspective to international LGBTQI+ spaces. Her presence at the festival reflects our values of visibility, solidarity, diversity, empowerment and community connection.
Format: Talk, personal storytelling and Q&A
Suitable for: Anyone interested in LGBTQI+ visibility, lesbian representation, Asian LGBTQI+ experiences, activism, media and community stories
