Activism and Lesbian Visibility in South Korea
We’re very proud to welcome Heeyoung to the festival and to have her share her personal story in this interactive talk and presentation exploring lesbian visibility, LGBTQ+ activism and representation in South Korea.
Heeyoung will speak openly about her coming-out journey, her experiences as a public lesbian figure, and her involvement in ToGetHer, South Korea’s first lesbian dating reality show. She will also reflect on what it means to live visibly as a lesbian in a country where LGBTQ+ representation remains limited, and on her experiences within the media and reality television industry.
Heeyoung is a South Korean lesbian activist, tattoo artist and content creator who has become an increasingly visible LGBTQ+ voice both in Asia and internationally. Her appearance on ToGetHer brought her to a wider audience and formed part of a significant moment for lesbian representation on South Korean television.
Through her activism and public presence, Heeyoung brings an important and still underrepresented perspective to international LGBTQ+ spaces. Her story offers an opportunity to hear first-hand about visibility, community and change in South Korea, while exploring both the progress being made and the challenges that remain.
Join Heeyoung for an honest, personal and interactive conversation about coming out, visibility, activism, representation and lesbian life in South Korea, with an opportunity for audience questions and discussion.
