Sappho Women are absolutely thrilled to announce that the acclaimed Dutch opera singer, Francis van Broekhuizen, will grace our stage for the very first time, bringing her powerful soprano voice and truly captivating presence to this idyllic setting.
Inspired by the legendary Maria Callas, whose photographs adorned her childhood bedroom, Francis embodies the spirit of “finding your way” with the help of inspiring figures. “We all need role models,” she believes. “People who can show us the way.”
Beyond her incredible career as an opera singer, Francis is a renowned comedian and prominent figure in the LGBTQI+ community, serving as an Ambassador of Pride Amsterdam since 2018. Her motto? “Always be yourself, wherever and whenever you can. It’s led me to where I am today.”
Having performed numerous roles with Dutch opera companies, Francis has also gained widespread popularity through television appearances, including a memorable stint on the first season of “The Traitors” (though she was, alas, banished!).
In 2022, she published the bestselling book “Bij twijfel hard zingen” (When in Doubt, Sing Loudly).
Prepare to be transported by her powerful voice and dramatic stage presence as we celebrate women, music, and the spirit of Sappho under the starlit skies of Lesvos.
