Candace Walsh – Sapphic Stanza Poetry
Buy Your Wristband Here
In this workshop, participants will learn how easy and satisfying it is to write Sapphic stanzas (4 lines long). I’ll share Sapphic stanzas by poets over time, including my own queer love poems published in journals, and in my poetry book by Yellow Arrow Publishing.
Participants will leave with their creations, the knowledge of how to write them on their own, and a deeper connection to Sappho and the power of queer love expression. Those who feel comfortable sharing their poems with the group will be invited to do so.
ABOUT CANDACE:
I hold an MFA and PhD in creative writing, and I’m a tenure-track professor of creative writing at Central Washington University. My books have twice been Lambda Literary finalists . I’ve taught creative writing in community and university settings for 12 years, at conferences, retreats, and intensives.
My poems have been published in many journals including the queer publications Sinister Wisdom and Vagabond City. My 2024 poetry collection, Iridescent Pigeons, was inspired by Virginia Woolf and Audre Lorde.
I love to teach, earned an Excellence in Teaching award as a doctoral student at Ohio University, and I am part Greek. My grandfather was born in Kamissiana, Crete, and my wife and I have travelled there for the last 5 summers.
