Discover Sigri & the Petrified Forest
Today’s trip takes us to Sigri, a picturesque fishing village on the far western tip of Lesvos, renowned for its extraordinary Petrified Forest, peaceful beach and beautiful natural surroundings.
Our first stop is the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, where you can discover the fascinating story of the island’s ancient landscape. Fossilised trees and plants reveal a world transformed by volcanic activity millions of years ago, while the museum’s exhibits explore the geological history of Lesvos and the wider Aegean.
Weather permitting, we will then board a glass-bottom boat for a short journey to Nissiopi, the small islet protecting Sigri Bay. The excursion includes a guided visit to the Marine Petrified Forest Park, where fossilised tree remains and geological formations can be seen both on land and beneath the sea.
IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE: This is an excursion to Sigri and the Petrified Forest, not primarily a boat trip. The glass-bottom boat journey to Nissiopi is weather-dependent and cannot be guaranteed.
For safety reasons, the Museum determines whether the boat can operate on the day. If weather or sea conditions prevent the boat journey from taking place, the Museum will provide an alternative guided tour as part of the excursion. The trip to Sigri will therefore still go ahead as planned.
Good walking shoes are strongly recommended, particularly if the Nissiopi visit takes place, as the guided tour includes walking over natural and uneven terrain.
Trip schedule
The minibus departs from Skala Eressos at 09:00, travelling directly to Sigri.
We will visit the Natural History Museum first. Weather permitting, the glass-bottom boat excursion to Nissiopi is planned for approximately 10:30. If the boat cannot operate, the Museum’s alternative guided programme will take place instead.
After the organised visits, there will be free time to enjoy a swim at Sigri beach, explore the village or have lunch at one of the local tavernas. Lunch is not included in the excursion price.
The minibus will depart Sigri for Skala Eressos at approximately 13:30.
