Give Me the Ball! — Special Festival Screening

We are delighted to present a special festival screening of Give Me the Ball! on Thursday 10 September.

Sappho Women has been fortunate to secure this multi-award-winning documentary before its general release, giving our festival audience a rare opportunity to experience it on the big screen ahead of wider audiences.

Fresh from its Sundance premiere, Give Me the Ball! is a captivating new documentary exploring the life, battles, and extraordinary legacy of Billie Jean King. Her fight for equal rights, women’s sport, and LGBTQ+ visibility changed the game forever, both on and off the court.

Created by award-winning documentary filmmakers Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff, the film offers an intimate and powerful look at Billie Jean King’s impact, determination, and lasting influence.

You do not need to be a tennis fan to appreciate the phenomenon that is Billie Jean King. Her contribution to women’s sport, equality, and our community is immeasurable.

A rare big-screen opportunity

As the film has not yet gone on general release, this screening is a special chance to see Give Me the Ball! in the unique atmosphere of our open-air cinema in Skala Eressos.

For anyone who has not yet experienced our festival cinema venue, it is a truly special way to spend an evening: sitting under the starlit Eressian skies with fellow festival-goers, watching an important LGBTQ+ film, perhaps with a cold drink from the bar, and enjoying the occasional visit from the local bats overhead.

It is community cinema at its most magical.
